20th-century Scandinavian lighting at Jacksons Berlin
Nordic Light
Jacksons Berlin presents Nordic Light, a celebration of innovative Scandinavian lighting from the past century. Just like the late 19th-century Nordic painters before them, beginning in the 1920s, early masters of modern architecture began to explore the ethereal quality of the area's summer nights. As the gallery notes, "Stark seasonal contrasts in combination with a scarcity of natural light in the Nordic countries created a unique atmosphere for developing some of the most innovative lamp designs of the 20th century."
The show includes gorgeous works by design icons such as Poul Henningsen, Alvar Aalto, Tapio Wirkkala, Greta Magnusson Grossman, and others who played so beautifully with translucence and reflection.
