About This Piece

Vintage Design

This vintage Danish desk by Peter Løvig Nielsen embodies everything that makes 1960s Scandinavian design so beloved: simplicity, sophistication, and thoughtful functionality. Designed to be admired from every angle, this freestanding desk is not only a practical workspace but also a stylish piece of furniture that stands out beautifully in any room. The warm teak exudes tranquility and character, while the subtly raised edge of the tabletop adds a refined detail. At the front, two drawer units with elegant integrated handles offer ample storage space, and the top drawers are lockable. The open compartments beneath the tabletop give the design an airy silhouette and ensure that the desk retains its distinctive light appearance. The back is also beautifully finished with open compartments for books, documents, or home decor, ensuring a neat appearance from every angle. The slender, tapered legs and the beautiful grain of the teak wood underscore the timeless character of this vintage Danish desk. The desk is in excellent vintage condition. It has been carefully inspected, is fully functional, and has been cleaned with care, beautifully preserving the warm character of the teak. The construction is sturdy, and all the drawers slide smoothly. Only minimal, age-related signs of wear subtly attest to its authentic history. A desk like this invites you to work, write, or simply enjoy timeless Danish craftsmanship. A distinctive design by Peter Løvig Nielsen that transcends generations and fits effortlessly into both modern and classic interiors.

About the Creator

Peter Løvig Nielsen

There is currently no verifiable biographical information available on the Danish designer Peter Løvig Nielsen.

Designing in the Scandinavian modern style that took the design world by storm in the 1950s and ‘60s, Løvig Nielsen is known for his wooden desks, tables, and storage units. Like many of his Danish contemporaries, Løvig Nielsen favored high-quality and beautifully grained woods such as teak, rosewood, and walnut, and his designs often featured tapered legs and organic curved edges. One of his most well-known designs is sometimes referred to as the Boomerang Desk (c.1956) which features an L-shaped table top on V-shaped legs with subtle brass detailing.

Although he was relatively unknown in the mid-century era, Løvig Nielsen’s designs have been rediscovered in the 21st century by vintage dealers due to the unusual ease in identifying them. Stamped “Løvig” or “Hedensted Møbelfabrik” for the Danish village in which they were produced, as well as the year of production, Løvig Nielsen’s beautifully crafted designs are experiencing a vintage revival.
