About This Piece

Antique large Kundan Navartna/Navaratna necklace (9 gems),
handcrafted, gold-plated on a sterling silver base (vermeil), enamels, and gold leaf
from India, circa 1900-1930, Mughal style, probably Jaipur (Rajasthan) due to the braided wire around some of the settings.

The necklace is made of sterling silver tested (a hidden portion at one end had to be filed away) with thick fire-gilding, gold leaf, and enamels
with genuine rose-cut diamonds that have been tested. No analysis has been performed on the colored stones, which appear to be a mixture of genuine gems and imitation stones, as was common at the time.

In the central band, the red stones appear to be red spinels, alternating with rose-cut diamonds, while the larger stones at the top and bottom, with the exception of the quartz, appear to be imitations, with the droplets at the ends most likely genuine cabochon ruby roots.

The necklace weighs 138.6 grams.
The length from side to side is 20 cm, with a height of 6.5 cm and a side length of 4 cm. The adjustable cord features a metal braid.

Excellent condition for its age. The necklace is antique, not a modern reproduction.
