A hand painted ceramic pedestal bowl by Melinda Patton, circa 1980s.

This bowl, titled "La Plume d'Icarus", features a surrealist image of an aristocratic figure with a birds body and feet, plucking a feather from the tail of a bird wearing a top hat, chequered shirt and formal shoes. The rim of the base and bowl is chequered black and white.

Primarily known for her posters and paintings, Melinda Patton also created artistic China, dinner services, and other ceramics. She ranges widely for her subject matter - Proust, the ancien regime, oddities of the natural world and scenes from opera. Her work has been showcased in various galleries and museums in the late 20th century, including Leighton House.

This piece is in excellent condition.
