White and Netwon Dressing Table in Afromosia and Teak, 1960s

1960s Dressing Table By White & Newton of Portsmouth. A scarcely seen model featuring contrasting teak and afromosia timbers, contoured drawers with recessed handles, and solid afromosia sleigh legs. The dressing table is fitted with three mirrors. White & Newton began making contemporary furniture in 1924 and the business grew to employ over 400 staff at its peak. On the cutting edge of furniture design and production in Britain throughout the mid 20th century, under the design direction of the talented Arthur Edwards, the firm produced stunning high end furniture often defined by its clean modern lines and stark linear form. The presence of afromosia in this piece positions it as one of their higher end products, as the more staple items were only constructed from teak. Condition report: In very good condition.
