This original TC2 floor lamp was designed by Aldo van den Nieuwelaar in Holland in 1969 and produced in 1972. This is an early white version.
Aldo van den Nieuwelaar (1944-2010) was one of the most outstanding Dutch designers of the 1960s and 1970s. After his graduation from the academy of arts, he started to work for the highly influential Dutch designer Benno Premsela. Inspired by his employer, the De Stijl movement, and minimalist art of the 1960s Van den Nieuwelaar developed a stringent geometrical style. In 1969, shortly after opening his own office, Van den Nieuwelaar came up with a series of lamps which were all based on the application of fluorescent tubes. The entire range was exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and subsequently taken into limited batch production by Artimeta. This floor lamp is from the TC series that was designed in 1969 and at first produced in very small numbers, between 1972 and 1974. The base contains the transformer that was quite heavy so this also was the counter weight for this lamp. The lamp is in working condition. The pipe can rotate to adjust the light beam. The original thick tubes are still available, also in different colors.
