About This Piece

The La Traviata jewelry series, originally inspired by the opera, with the same name by Giuseppe Verdi set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, inspired the artist to create the porcelain jewelry. Traces of gold and silver seen on the pieces are an allegory to the collection name as was La Traviata, which means: The fallen woman. Traces of gold and silver are memories transferred onto porcelain.

The symbol of wealth is gold and silver and the fragility of porcelain symbolizes the weakness of 'The fallen woman'. La Traviata earrings are handmade with an original technique, using coloured porcelain and a 925 sterling silver back, which is safe for the ears. Porcelain is one of the most durable, sustainable and sophisticated materials used in contemporary jewelry. Color: yellow and silver, size Ø 2cm. Easy to clean with warm water and soap.

About the Creator

Maria Joanna Juchnowska

Maria Joanna Juchnowska is an artist, designer, curator, founder, and owner of Mari JJ Design, which launched in 2010 in Stockholm but is now based in Oslo.  She regularly cooperates with luxury brands in Europe, Asia, and the US, such as Meissen in Germany and Franz Collection in China and Taiwan. Her recent activities include participation in Dezeen's Virtual Design Week 2020, Fourisalone 2020, Ventura Dubai, Wanted Design New York, Talente International Craft Fair Munich, Der Berliner Salon Vogue Salon with Meissen, International Jingdezhen Porcelain Fair with Franz Collection, British Ceramics Biennial, Munich Creative Business Week, and more. Her many recognitions include laureate and finalist of Future Lights, the European competition organized by Ceramics and Its Dimensions, the Artzept International Design Award Milan, and second stage finalist at Red Dot Awards 2020. Juchnowska is a member of the IAC International Academy of Ceramics, Norske Kunsthåndverkere, Norske Billedkunstnere, and Artaxis International Ceramic Artist Association
