Vintage Design

An Art Deco/Modernist Bookcase produced in Czechoslovakia in the 1920s, sourced from a Villa in Brno. The piece was originally commissioned by the owners but the designer and producer of the bookcase is unfortunately unknown to us.

This piece has got a particularly rich veneer, with the pattern and texture of the Mahogany and other tropical wood really celebrated. Perfectly balanced proportions, sleek corners, an absolute attention to detail and the overall quality of craftsmanship makes this piece a stunning example of luxury furniture for the upper classes of the time.

The bookcase is divided into two parts: the top part of the cabinet is for display purposes with adjustable/removable shelves behind cut glass cupboard doors. The bottom half of the unit has storage space hidden by wooden swing doors with an integrated drawer.

The bookcase is in great vintage condition with original keyholes and hinges. Recent restoration has fully revived the extremely rich colour of the entire piece, showing off the beautiful patterns on all wooden surfaces. The entire piece has been hand finished with Shellac and Nitro varnishes in order to achieve a greater gloss finish.
