A set of six Johannes Andersen chairs made by Uldum Møbelfabrik in beautiful rosewood. The organically shaped backrest is so characteristic of Johannes Andersen. All chairs are marked with the Uldum stamp on the underside of the seat. We have had these beautiful chairs professionally reupholstered. The interior of these chairs has also been completely renewed, with jute webbing, 2 cm thick polyether and covered with 100 grams Dacron.

Kvadrat : Hallingdal 65
The chosen fabric is Hallingdal 65 from Kvadrat color 0166. The fabric is made of 70% wool and 30% Viscose. Martindale is 100,000.

The furniture fabric Kvadrat Hallingdal 65 is the archetype of woolen furniture fabrics. This durable fabric was designed by Nanna Ditzel and has now been given a whole new color palette. The fabric is made of wool and viscose. Both materials are colored before being spun. In 2001 the designer received the Classic Award from the Danish Design Center for this Hallingdal.

About the Creator

Johannes Andersen

While information on designer Johannes Andersen is limited and difficult to verify, it is believed that he was born in 1903 in Aarhus, Denmark, and that he initially apprenticed as a cabinetmaker. He went on to work for many years in a number of workshops before opening his own architectural and furniture workshop in the 1930s.

Andersen’s designs span seating, tables, and storage in well-crafted materials, such as rosewood and teak. His career paralleled the midcentury’s growing appreciation for Danish furniture designs, and he attracted international attention—particularly for coffee tables like the highly sculptural Smile Table.

Andersen worked steadily for his own firm—as well as Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian companies such as Trensum, CFC Silkeborg, Bramin, and Uldum Møbelfabrik—until he closed his shop in his eighties. He passed away in 1991.
