About This Piece

Figures is an original drawing in pencil realized by Gabriele Galantara, the state of preservation of the artwork is good and aged, applied on white cardboard. Image dimension: 10 x 15 cm. The artworks represent quick-created figures in a crowd, with strong lines, skilfully expressed. Gabriele Galantara (1867-1937), journalist and one of the major Italian caricaturists and satirical designers. The Donkey was a political satire magazine in 1892, the year of the first Giolitti ministry and the establishment of the Italian Socialist Party, The magazine was conceived by Guido Podrecca,and by Gabriele Galantara, brilliant cartoonist and puppeteer, also a socialist. The two assumed the pseudonyms of ''Goliardo'' (Podrecca) and ''Rata Langa'' (Galantara), and with these nicknames, they signed the issues of the weekly. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price.
