Pair of gilt bronze andirons. Antique bronze andirons. A chenet is a fireplace accessory. It is a piece of wood or metal often placed in pairs in a fireplace or hearth and used to support the logs so that they do not smother the fire. It consists of an ''easel'' (horizontal bars often made of cast iron) finished with a decorative or functional element, the ''head of the chenet''.
