Italian Space Age Floor Lamp in Murano Glass by Toni Zuccheri for Mazzega, 1968

Vintage Design

The floor lamp by Tony Zuccheri is extremely unusual and rare. The heavy, illuminated base with the slits carries the elaborately mouth-blown clear glass reflector with membrane/partition in amorphous inlaid milk glass via 3 ball screws. The artistically designed glass reflector shimmers mysteriously when only the foot is switched on. The luminaire offers different views of the amorphous white membrane in every position.

This stunning floor lamp is in good used condition. There a few minor signs of wear as shown on the photographs which add even more to its originality. It is fully functioning with the original cord switch with 2 switches, the base lamp and glass reflector/room light can be switched on separately. Of course, the lamp can be used with modern LED lamps. Currently has a UK plug which can be changed upon request.

Toni Zuccheri was born in 1936. He is the son of the painter Luigi Zuccheri, well-known for his illustrations of nature and birds.

Toni graduated from the Academy of Architecture in Venice, where he learned from various great artists including Ignazio Gardella, Franco Albini and Carlo Scarpa.

Around 1961, young Toni joins Venini and gets to know the amazing art of glass making by collaborating with Gio Ponti.

Toni Zuccheri is the instigator of many experiments on glass. He was the first person to mix pasty glass with raw materials such as copper, mineral pigments, murrines and even bronze. (1936 – 2008)
