The rr-126 is a radiographer designed by the Italian brothers Pier Giacomo and Achille Castiglioni in 1964, commissioned and produced by the Italian electronics company Brionvega, which has made history in the field of design applied to hi-tech products. The object was one of the status symbols of the '60s and one of the most sought-after pieces of the modern art of the '80s and '90s. An icon of pop design thanks to its trendy colours and shapes in those years.
It is classified in the furniture category as a living room appliance, with an exceptional reputation for ease of use, formal innovation and precision of details. This stereophonic appliance fits perfectly into a context of the late 50s - early 60s, in which most of the furnishing objects in Italian homes were composed of a wooden and tubular metal structure, traditional upholstery and important plastic finishes. In these years design was a strategic interlocutor for small and medium technological industries and, thanks to the new plastic materials, it was able to reinterpret the relationship between the user and everyday objects.
At the time it reflected a contemporary and fashionable movement, which allowed its attractiveness in the market. The cost in those years was adequate to the technological and aesthetic novelty and allowed a greater permanence of the product in the market world. Nowadays, the radioonograph takes on greater value because it is a collector's item.
It consists of three modular elements in veneered masonite and is mounted on an aluminium pedestal connected to a monobloc cast iron trolley placed on four wheels that facilitate its transport.
The main element of rectangular shape includes the devices for use, the other two of cubic shape are the loudspeakers that contain the speakers.
The two loudspeakers can be detached and positioned on the central block or laterally.
The operating devices consist of two rotary switches with a semi-circular scale for selecting the tuning, five rotary switches for adjusting bass, treble and balance, volume and level. Above the main element is a turntable with automatic three-speed gearbox. The turntable is covered and protected by a smoked acrylic glass hood.
To the amplifier you can connect an auxiliary source (a cd player, a tape, etc..) through the dedicated output on the back.
