Limed Oak Bedside Cabinet from Heals, 1930s

Vintage Design

Limed oak bedside cabinet by Heal & Son. Circa late 1930s.

Superbly made, with each join having dowel construction, forged iron exposed cabinet door hinges. Made in solid oak with inner fielded sides and door panel. The back is tongue and grooved in sweet chestnut.

In good untouched original condition. There are a few light marks to the top to note, the top also having the limed loss. There are some water marks in places and difference in colour with patina. No damage or woodworm. There are some marks to the inner cupboard and open section, please refer to the photographs.

Not labelled - Matching Heal's single bed from the same suite also listed. The Christie's "Classic Arts and Crafts" catalogue from 2001, page 35, shows a sideboard and buffet of variant design with the same butterfly hinges and handles. Christie's quote as their reference, the Heal's General Catalogue, 175th Edition, 1939.

The matching tallboy cabinet is of a slightly lighter appearance than this cabinet. The Heal's single bed is darker than this cabinet.

The cupboard space is 31cm wide x 26cm deep x 34cm high. The open section is 27cm wide at the front x 28cm deep x 24cm high.
