Vintage Design

Ma Hongwé Gabon Reliquary. Composed of red copper elements (eyes) and solid brass wires woven on a wooden core. Worked brass plates on the back. Presumed circa 1960. Sold with metal base.
Kota reliquaries are used for ancestor worship, often placed on top of baskets containing the bones of the deceased, allowing society to venerate the dead.
Reliquary height alone 64 cm. Weight: 2.750 kg.
