The Sputnik Lamps mesmerizing shadow amplifies the intricate hand-weaving process employed by up-and-coming, Paris-based multitalent Julie Lansom.When she's not working as a photographer for hip publications like Vice and Intro Magazine, Lansom creates each Sputnik Lamp by hand in her light, airy Parisian atelier. Drawing on an innate feeling for color, she carefully selects her palate of cotton yarns, pulling each string taut around a geometric frame until a complex interwoven pattern emerges.Concentrated, laborious, and tricky weaving results in these delicately graphic, semi-transparent lampshades. Whether hanging from the ceiling or standing on the floor, illuminated or not, these gorgeous creations have a serene and subtle allure and the international style press certainly agrees.

Delivery Details

Delivery will be completed by a parcel service such as UPS, DHL, or FedEx.

A wooden crate may be used for intercontinental shipments for maximum protection.
Item will be left in its packaging after delivery.

About the Creator

Julie Lansom

Designer and photographer Julie Lansom was born in Montpellier, in the south of France, in 1987. She majored in journalism, earning her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Montpellier in 2009 and her Master’s degree from the French Press Institute in Paris in 2012. She is a self-taught designer.

Lansom works as a freelance photographer and journalist for publications such as Vice, Intro Magazine, and M, Le magazine du Monde. She specializes in portraiture, working exclusively with analog photography.

She opened her eponymous design studio in Paris in 2014. Shapes and colors inspire her work, and her aesthetic combines vintage and contemporary styles. As of this writing, her most noted design has been the hand-woven Sputnik series (2014), a collection of lamps that feature patterns of colorful yarn drawn tautly around geometric frames.
