A rising star in the world of ceramics, Milan-based designer Simona Cardinetti grounds her aesthetic in geometric polish. Eye-catching and highly sculptural, her vases and vessels nod to both the Art Deco and Memphis movements though graphic shapes accentuated by bold color and delicate stripes.
Born in Como, Cardinetti studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti, where she specialized in interior design. She started professionally in set design, providing stages for trade shows and venerated events like the Venice and Cannes Film Festivals. She later augmented this work with a foray into image consultancy for furniture and design companies. In the last decade, from her Milan studio (est. 1998), she has shifted her focus toward crafting contemporary ceramic décor, alongside interior design projects for restaurants, hotels, bars, and private homes.
Cardinetti’s vases are simple silhouettes that feature well-contrasted cylindrical layering. Cardenetti’s Montée Black and White Vase (2013) pops with the vibrancy of a Carl Thore Trava (ca. 1960s) pendant. Her striking Silos series of wood-lidded stackable vases (2014) retains the same eye-popping contrast in a vibrant and detailed use of green shading.
