Biography
It was born in 1908 in Milan. Once the technical studies have been completed, he works as a graphic and as an engraver and directs his research towards the abstractionism of C.Belli, the KN magazine and the Million Gallery of Milan, where he exhibited for the first time in 1932. of 1934 e 'The exhibition of non -figurative etchings with J.Albers at the Milione Gallery. He comes into contact with the French abstractionist movement Abstraction-Creation, to which he joined in 1934 and later with L.Moholy-Nagy and Bauhaus. In the 1930s he was interested in photography and relations between painting and photography: he painted in tempera on a photographic positive and performs Collages by combining painting and photography or practiced in the merger between blacks and photographic grays and painted color. In recent years he begins to create abstract photographs, solarizations, frames, photomontages. In 1935 he participated in the first collective exhibition of Italian abstract art in Turin with Bogliardi, De Amicis, D'Errico, Fontana, Ghiringhelli, Licini, Melotti, Reggiani, soldiers and studies theatrical scenography. Between 1939 and 1941 it makes the first six abstract films with hand painted colors. In 1936 he illustrated Leonardo Sinisgalli's geometry notebook; In the same year he participated in the Milan Triennale. Relationships begin with Max Bill, Jan Tschichold and with the Swiss concrete movement. Study color science according to the Ostwald principle. In 1938 he participated in the National Scenography Exhibition in Rome. In 1939 he published the volume 14 variations of a pictorial theme modulated on the 14 musical variations composed in 1938 by the M.stro Riccardo Malipiero. In Paris he attends Delaunay, Klein, Fleischmann, Seligmann, Herbin. It later performs abstract compositions in which interest focuses on the relationships between music and color. In 1940 he participated in the Milan Triennale, collaborated with Paolo Grassi and Giorgio Strehler. In 1942 he made the scenography for Minnie La Candida di Malipiero. In 1947 he participated in the exhibition abstract and concrete art at Palazzo Reale in Milan. In 1949 he joined the concrete art movement (M.A.C.). In 1954 he participated in the Venice Biennale. In 1955 he participated in the Biennale of San Paolo. In 1957 he obtained the first prize for the woodcut at the II Biennale of the incision of Venice. In 1960 he published a folder of color lithographs for Bertieri in Milan. In 1966 he was awarded the Saint Gobain award for a window. The publisher "Il Torchio" publishes a folder with six color lithographs. Since the 1960s, personals follow one another. In 1971, an exhibition entitled "concrete art" and in Paris, London, Milan, an exhibition on "The world of non - Objective '1924-1939" was held in Hamburg. He died in Milan in 1998.
