Aligi Sassu vast artistic production spans the entire 20th century and includes many areas and techniques of expression: from paintings to large mural works, from ceramics to monumental sculpture, to works - watercolours, acrylics, chalcographies, lithographs - created in close relationship with literature. Numerous are the Sassian cycles dedicated to the texts of classical and modern authors: during the Eighties, among the numerous works, the tables for the Divine Comedy (1980-1986) and those for The Betrothed (1982), preceded in 1974 by the fundamental experience for the Furioso.

''The women, the cavaliers, the weapon, the love, the love, the courtesies, the audacious enterprises I sing...''. Thus begins the poem of Orlando crazy for love. ''And it starts from here - writes the curator of the exhibition Simona Campus - Sassu passion for the wonderful world of Ludovico Ariosto, which so much resembles his poetic world. In these engravings are found some fundamental iconographic and stylistic prerogatives of all Saxon art, but declined according to the relationship, far from conventional, at times unexpected, with the poetic text. One finds the aptitude to
construct the shapes through the use of intense and strongly expressive colours. In the emotional strength of the human figures and beloved horses, the consonance between the Ariostesque universe and the Saxon universe is evident.
