About This Piece

Large vintage oil painting depicting fishermen and men and women at work to collect and clean the fishes.

We see the influence of folk art and rural themes in this large work in a certain stylised social realism. The setting is dreamlike in which all people work together peacefully, everyone responsible for his or her part. The painting is very attractive, both in size and colours.

Late 20th century expressionist, oil on canvas. Signed, A(lexander) Vlasenko (A. BLACEHKO) 1987. Presented in a painted wooden frame.

This painting fits in a tradition of paintings of people cleaning fishes. The provenance can be Russia or Ukraine possibly.

Has been cleaned and restored by a painting restorer from the University of Amsterdam.
