About This Piece

Modernist abstract watercolor and gouache on paper 63 x 51 cm. Signed at the bottom right with initials and dated '54. Including frame 93 x 89 cm. Auctioned by Christies. Hussem lived in Paris from 1918 to 1936, where he met Piet Mondriaan and Pablo Picasso, among others. In addition to the latter, Vincent van Gogh also influenced his style. After the Second World War, his works became abstract.
